PTC News Desk: Three people were killed in violent clashes over a mosque survey in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district on Sunday, according to Moradabad divisional commissioner Ananya Kumar.

"Three people died during the clash: Naeem, Bilal, and Niman. He stated that 20 to 22 officers, including officials (CO Sambhal, PRO to SP Sambhal, and one SDM, were injured, while others were injured by splinters). Meanwhile, 15 people have been arrested," the divisional commissioner said.

During the second survey of the Mughal-era Jama Masjid in Sambhal, residents hurled stones at the police team, raising tensions.

Police used tear gas and "minor force" to disperse the throng. Sambhal has been tense in recent days after the mosque was surveyed last Tuesday on the orders of a local court in response to a petition alleging that a Harihar temple existed on the site.

According to the local administration, a second survey by an "Advocate Commissioner" as part of a court-ordered investigation into the disputed site began at 7 a.m., and a crowd gathered around the location.

"Some miscreants emerged from the crowd gathered near the spot and hurled stones at the police team. The police used minor force and tear gas to bring the situation under control," Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Vishnoi stated.

The police officer stated that individuals who pelted stones and incited them would be identified and punished.

District Magistrate Rajendra Pesia stated, "Some miscreants resorted to stone pelting, but the situation is now peaceful, and the survey is underway."
