'Kuch bhi ho sakta hai': Ahmedabad man duped with fake notes featuring Anupam Kher's photo, actor reacts

PTC News Desk: Anupam Kher expressed shock and said, "Kuch bhi ho sakta hai" after an Ahmedabad dealer was duped with bogus Rs 500 notes featuring his face instead of Mahatma Gandhi.

"My photo instead of Mahatma Gandhi's on a Rs 500 note??? Kuch bhi ho sakta hai (Anything can happen)," Anupam Kher said.

The 69-year-old actor also posted a video of a report on the recovery of fake notes.

Mehul Thakkar, a bullion trader, filed the complaint with the Navrangpura police station on September 24.

He said that the suspects approached one of his employees for a deal involving 2,100 grams of gold worth Rs 1.6 crore. The men gave 1.3 crore in cash and promised to pay the remaining Rs 30 lakh the next day. However, after handing over the gold, they vanished, leaving the trader to learn that all of the notes were fake.

According to a police official at the Navrangpura police station, Thakkar was first contacted by Prashant Patel, a jewellery shop manager with whom he has a long business relationship. "Patel informed Thakkar that the buyer could not transfer the full amount immediately and would instead provide Rs 1.3 crore in cash," the officer said.

On September 24, Joshi delivered the gold to a temporary office put up by the suspects just two days before. After passing over 26 bundles of cash, the men instructed Joshi to count the money with a machine while they went outside to gather the remaining amount. Only after the men disappeared did Joshi notice the notes had Anupam Kher's image rather than Gandhi'.

Police are investigating, using CCTV footage to track down the two suspects, who are still at large.
