Amit Shah reviews India's internal security situation, bats for increased information sharing

New Delhi, November 9: Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed India's internal security situation in a high-level meeting of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officers from across the country here in the national capital on Wednesday, emphasising the need to further strengthen the process of information sharing and improving liaison between state counter-terrorism and anti-drug agencies.

The Home Minister, who presided over the meeting, called for specific steps to "control Left Wing Extremism or Naxalism by dismantling its financial and logistical support system." He also emphasised the importance of making the country's coastal security "impenetrable," suggesting that even the smallest and most isolated port be monitored.

The Home Minister further directed to focus on the complete destruction of narcotics, and the maximum use of anti-drone technology to stop cross-border drug smuggling.

"Narcotics not only ruins the youth of the country but the money earned from it also affects the internal security of the country, that is why we have to work together for its complete destruction. We have to make maximum use of anti-drone technology to stop the smuggling of drugs from across the border through drones," Shah said.

He also made it clear that the union government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to ensuring the security of the nation by strengthening all aspects of security and in the last eight years, many important steps have been taken to strengthen the internal security of the country.

Noting that the Intelligence Bureau has made an important anonymous contribution to maintaining peace in the country since its independence, Shah stated that "our fight is against terrorism as well as its support system, and victory over it cannot be achieved until we fight strictly against both of them."

The meeting held extensive discussions on a variety of national security issues, including counter-terrorism, extremism, cybersecurity, border-related issues, and threats from cross-border elements to the nation's integrity and stability.
