Badrinath highway remains blocked due to heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand's Chamoli

Chamoli (Uttarakhand), July 2: The Badrinath National Highway (NH-7) has been closed for the last 13 hours at the Lambagad and Khachada drains in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district due to incessant rain, officials said on Sunday.

Commuters are stranded due to the closure of the national highway.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), according to officials, is working to open the highway. According to them, numerous travellers are stranded owing to the traffic blockage.

The NHAI is working round the clock to open the highway.

Earlier on Friday, Badrinath national highway was blocked owing to a landslide after it reopened for traffic.

Later that day, due to a rise in the water level in the Khachdu drain near Uttarakhand's Lambagad, vehicle movement on the highway was once again restricted.

Authorities closed the Badrinath National Highway 7 (NH 7) at Chhinka in the State's Chamoli district, stranding numerous commuters, pilgrims, and tourists on their journey to and from the famed Badrinath shrine.

Heavy rains earlier on Thursday prompted landslides and flash floods in Uttarakhand, resulting in a landslide in the same location and the closure of the Badrinath National Highway. On Thursday morning, 100 meters of the highway was closed owing to a large landslide from a hill near Chhinka caused by rain.
