Captain Sumeet Sabharwal's last rites: Inconsolable father bids tearful goodbye to his son
PTC News Desk: The mortal remains of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, pilot of the Air India plane which crashed in Ahmedabad last week, were brought to Mumbai on Tuesday (June 17, 2025), officials said. The casket carrying his mortal remain arrived at the Mumbai airport and were taken to his residence for his family and loved ones to pay their last respect.

The mortal remains were kept at Sabharwal's residence for an hour where people paid homage, and his last rites will later be held at Chakala electric cremation ground, he said.
Captain Sumeet Sabharwal was survived by his 80-year-old father. He was due to take retirement to take care of his father full time.
Capt Sabharwal commanded the Air India flight AI-171 along with First Officer Clive Kundar. While Sabharwal had 8,200 hours of flying experience, Kundar 1,100 hours, the DGCA earlier said in a statement.
The ill-fated flight carrying 242 passengers travelling from Ahmedabad was bound for London. The plane crashed shortly after taking off on June 12 killing 241 passengers. Fortunately one passenger survived the fatal crash. The incident also resulted in 20 on ground fatalities when the aircraft smashed into a medical complex.
