PTC Web Desk: At least three persons lost their lives after an 80-year-old residential building collapsed in Veraval city of Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district early Monday morning, officials confirmed.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 1.30 am, when the old structure, which had long been in a deteriorating condition, suddenly gave way. Firefighters, police personnel, and municipal staff immediately launched a rescue operation that continued until 5 am.

Rescue teams managed to pull three bodies from the debris, while two others were rescued alive and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Inspector Goswami said among the victims was a motorcyclist passing by who was crushed under the falling debris. The other two deceased were identified as Devkiben Suyani (65) and her daughter Jashoda (35), residents of the collapsed building. The third victim was identified as Dinesh Jungi (34), the motorbike rider. Devkiben’s husband and another woman were among those rescued and are currently receiving medical care.

Locals said the building had been in a dilapidated condition for several years, and residents had repeatedly expressed safety concerns. Authorities are expected to carry out a structural inspection of nearby buildings to prevent similar incidents.
