Hoax bomb threats to airlines continue, 32 Air India flights get fresh threat
PTC News Desk: Following a spate of hoax bomb threats delivered to commercial airlines and several places around the country in recent weeks, 32 Air India planes received new bomb threats on Tuesday.
This comes a day after seven flights from India to Kolkata received bomb threat messages via social media posts.
However, the threats were found to be hoaxes and flights were resumed.
Meanwhile, following a significant rise in airline threat calls recently, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has increased its security measures across the country.
In the previous two weeks alone, security services have reported receiving over 400 hoax calls, raising widespread concern about the potential consequences for passenger safety and national security.
To address these escalating concerns, the NIA's cyber wing has undertaken a thorough investigation into these foreign threat calls. This inquiry aims to determine the motivations behind these calls and evaluate their authenticity.
Taking a strong stance on hoax threat calls, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) issued an advisory to all social media platforms last week, asking them to follow provisions of the Information Technology (IT) Rules and Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and make "reasonable efforts" to 'promptly' take down bomb threat posts or else "be held liable".
