IAS officer Puja Khedkar's luxury car with illegal red beacon seized
PTC News Desk: Pune police confiscated a luxurious car driven by controversial probationary IAS officer Pooja Khedkar on Sunday.
On Thursday, the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) issued a warning to a city-based private company that owns the Audi car used by 34-year-old Khedkar during her posting here.
According to officials, the registered user's address is in Shivane village, Haveli taluka.
Khedkar recently made headlines after sparking controversy over her demands for a separate cabin and staff during her posting in Pune.
She allegedly abused disability and Other Backward Class (OBC) quotas to obtain a position in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
Khedkar allegedly used a red beacon light on the Audi car and had 'Maharashtra Government' written on it without permission. Following the issue, she was transferred from Pune to Washim district before completing her training.
"On Thursday, a notice was issued for the unlawful use of a beacon and name sign on Khedkar's private sedan. The car has now been confiscated, its documentation will be verified, and we are looking into the matter further," a senior police official said on Sunday.
A jammer was mounted on the car, and barricades were erected around it, he claimed.
The Audi car registered at the Pune RTO on June 27, 2012, has received 21 challans totalling Rs 27,000 for alleged traffic violations.
The fine has been paid, according to officials.
Only senior state officials above the secretary level, police officers above the rank of inspector general of police, and regional commissioners are permitted to use amber beacons without flashers. However, top-level district officials may use blue beacons.
