PTC News Desk: While referring to Canada's claims as absurd and baseless, India has summoned the representative of the Canadian High Commission was summoned on Friday and a note protesting the accusations was handed to the official.

Addressing a media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "Regarding the latest Canadian target, we summoned the representative of the Canadian High Commission yesterday... It was conveyed in the note that the Government of India protests in the strongest terms to the absurd and baseless references made to the Union Home Minister of India before the Committee by Deputy Minister David Morrison."

Earlier this week, senior officials of Trudeau administration confirmed leaking sensitive information to US media while alleging Union Home minister Amit Shah for authorising crimes against Sikh dissidents abroad. Deputy Foreign Minister David Morrison told a parliamentary panel on Tuesday that a top ranking official in the PM Modi-led government was behind the plots to attack Sikh separatists in Canada.

The Indian government however rubbished the claims as absolutely absurd and baseless while labeling the remarks as politically motivated and aimed at discrediting India and 'influencing other nations'

'In fact, the revelation that high Canadian officials deliberately leak unfounded insinuations to the international media as part of a conscious strategy to discredit India and influence other nations only confirms the view that the government of India has long held about the current Canadian government's political agenda and behavioural pattern," the MEA said.

The diplomatic ties between both the nations have taken a sour turn since the killing of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar for which Canada held India responsible without presenting credible evidence. However Canadian police has indicted four Indian origin men in the case.
