J&K engineer's missing body recovered from Jhelum river in Baramulla after 4 days
Srinagar, August 29: A somber conclusion has been reached in the case of the missing PWD engineer, as his lifeless body was recovered from the depths of the Jhelum river in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. The engineer, identified as Gurmeet Singh, had been reported missing last week, prompting an intensive search operation.
The grim discovery unfolded on Tuesday, shedding light on the mystery that had surrounded Gurmeet Singh's disappearance. His body was found at a barrage within the Lower Jhelum Hydel Project (LJHP) in the locality of Gantmulla, Baramulla district, exactly four days after he was first reported missing.
In response to the engineer's disappearance, the Baramulla police took swift action by establishing a dedicated Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the guidance of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). The primary objective of this team was to meticulously investigate the circumstances surrounding Gurmeet Singh's vanishing.
The search operation, characterised by its thoroughness, saw the concerted efforts of various entities, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), a trained canine squad, and drone surveillance. Additionally, the local authorities actively sought the assistance of the general public in the pursuit of any leads that could aid in unraveling the enigma.
"After relentless efforts, the lifeless body of Gurmeet Singh was located within a barrage located at the LJHP site in Gantmulla," revealed official police statements. Following this discovery, the body was carefully retrieved from the scene and subsequently transported to a nearby medical facility to undergo necessary medico-legal procedures.
The circumstances surrounding Gurmeet Singh's demise are yet to be definitively determined, with further investigations expected to shed light on the cause of death and the events that transpired leading up to this tragic conclusion.
