Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth appointed India's next Chief of Army Staff, to take charge on June 30
PTC News Desk: The government on Saturday announced that Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth will assume charge as the Chief of the Indian Army Staff on June 30, after the retirement of General Upendra Dwivedi.
“I am directed to convey the approval of the President to the appointment of Lt General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM as the next Chief of the Army Staff in the substantive rank of General, with effect from 30 (th) June, 2026 vice General Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM, with a tenure upto 31st August, 2028," read a letter from the Ministry of Defence.
Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh Seth is a graduate of the National Defence Academy and was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in 1986. Over nearly 40 years of service, he has held several important command, staff and strategic positions in the Indian Army.
He has undergone advanced military training in India and abroad, including courses at the Military College in Paris, the Naval Postgraduate School in California, the Higher Command Course in Mhow, and the National Defence College in New Delhi.
During his career, Lt Gen Seth commanded an Armoured Regiment in the desert sector, an Armoured Brigade in a developed sector, and a Counter-Insurgency Force in Jammu and Kashmir. He also led the Sudarshan Chakra Corps and later served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Delhi Area, where he supervised several major national and international events and engagements.
