Rain batters Himachal Pradesh: Orange alert issued in 8 districts; check advisory

Orange Alert in Himachal Pradesh: Himachal Pradesh, battered by intense rainfall since the previous week, is unlikely to get respite from heavy rains, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting issuing an orange alert for heavy rain in rain-ravaged hill state Pradesh for the next three days.

Sirmaur, 

Mandi, 

Chamba, 

Kangra, 

Hamirpur, 

Bilaspur

The effect of the monsoon will remain until August 27 in Himachal Pradesh. After that, the weather is expected to be normal, officials added.

IMD also added that, "Till now, Himachal Pradesh has received 36 per cent more rainfall than normal in the monsoon. All the districts of Himachal Pradesh have received above-normal rainfall. After decades, this kind of rain has been seen in the state during the monsoon. The intensity of the rain is going to increase in the next three days, which is likely to cause damage."

Advisory for Himachalis and tourists 

1. Avoid visiting hilly areas and places prone to landslides and heavy rainfall. 

2. Avoid trekking amid inclement weather. 

3. In case of lightning strikes, it is safe to stay indoors. 

4. An alert has also been issued regarding visibility

5. Avoid driving in hilly areas due to fog 

6. Do not visit river areas. 

7. Pay attention to the warnings issued by the weather department. 

 The serenity of pleasant weather which was the perfect escape from world is now the scene of a heartbreaking story of landslides, falling homes, flash floods and loss of precious lives.

 Himachal Pradesh is grappling with the impact of landslides, causing several roads to be blocked. The ongoing monsoon season has inflicted extensive losses on the state, amounting to thousands of crores.
