Sanitation pioneer, Sulabh International founder Bindeshwar Pathak passes away in Delhi
Bindeshwar Pathak death: Bindeshwar Pathak, the founder of Sulabh International and a social activist, died on Tuesday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi.
His work has been regarded as groundbreaking in social change, particularly in the fields of sanitation and hygiene. In addition, he has garnered numerous national and international awards for his efforts with this organization.
He developed and brought about a low-cost and appropriate toilet technology known as the Sulabh Shauchalaya system on a pan-India scale through Sulabh International.
He has worked relentlessly for the human rights of manual scavengers over the last 50 years.
His efforts to rehabilitate manual scavengers and provide alternative employment through skill development have gained widespread praise.
Pathak advocated for the installation of toilets in schools.
Sulabh International, led by Pathak, has played an important part in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's aim of making India a clean country.
Sulabh was given the Gandhi Peace Prize for its work in implementing the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Campaign).
Sulabh International is a social service organization that works via education to promote human rights, environmental sanitation, waste management, and social reforms.
In a post on the microblogging site X (previously Twitter), PM Modi expressed his condolences for Pathak's passing away and stated that his efforts will continue to inspire many people.
“The passing away of Dr Bindeshwar Pathak Ji is a profound loss for our nation. He was a visionary who worked extensively for societal progress and empowering the downtrodden. Bindeshwar Ji made it his mission to build a cleaner India. He provided monumental support to the Swachh Bharat Mission. During our various conversations, his passion towards Swachhata was always visible. His work will continue to inspire several people. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Om Shanti,”, PM Modi said.
