Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has introduced the Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha. While presenting the bill, Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari explained that the characteristics of the bill which states that the purpose of the bill is to reduce the road accidents in India. Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill purposes for a fierce penalty against those breaking traffic rules. Also, as per the bill, the driving license process will also be changed. Earlier, the Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill was introduced in 2016, which was stuck in the Rajya Sabha. The bill was not passed in the first term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Hence, the bill has been discussed with the Transport Minister of 18 States to pass the bill. As per the Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill, the fines have been increased to 10 percent. Therefore, if this bill gets passed then the driver without a seat belt will pay the fine of Rs 1000. Earlier, there fine for crossing the speed limit was Rs 500, which will be up by Rs 5000. Also, the bill imposes heavy penalties against those who go for a drink and drive. Also Read: Helmet to be mandatory for women in Chandigarh, including Sikh women Meanwhile, while presenting the Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that 30 percent of the driving license in India is fake. Hence, if this bill gets implemented then the Aadhaar card will be compulsory for the driving license and vehicle registration. Also, the life of the license will be reduced from 20 years to 10 years. Also, the driving license for the people aged 55 years or more will be valid for only 5 years. -PTC News
