New Zealand : 5.8 magnitude earthquake shakes South Island
An earthquake of 5.8 magnitude on Richter scale has bee registered near the subantarctic Snares Islands south of Stewart Island in Auckland. The islands lie about 100 km southwest of Stewart Island in New Zealand.
According to reports ,”The quake was 12km deep and was centred in the Puysegur area, in the south-west.”
It is the second largest earthquakes in New Zealand since a Magnitude 7.8 tremor struck near Kaikoura in November 2016, which killed two people.
Meanwhile,the earthquake has not triggered a tsunami warning.
