Night curfew back in Goa; schools & colleges shut till January 26

Panaji: Amid a sudden spike in Covid-19 and new variant Omicron cases, the Goa Government on Monday announced the closure of schools and colleges till January 26. This was stated by Dr Shekhar Salkar, a member of the Goa Government's task force for Covid management. A night curfew from 11 pm to 6 am will also be imposed and the orders are likely to be issued by tonight.

"Schools and colleges will remain closed in Goa till January 26 amid the uptick in Covid-19 and Omicron cases. Classes will be conducted online during the period," said Dr Shekhar Salkar. A meeting of the state government's taskforce on Covid management was held . The task force is chaired by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

Salkar said students who were eligible for vaccination would be administered Covid vaccination on school premises over the next few days, though offline classes would not be conducted.

The task force would meet again to review the situation a couple of days before January 26. The official also said a night curfew would be imposed in Goa soon from 11 pm to 6 am.

"The government is also imposing a night curfew from 11 pm to 6 am. A formal order will follow tonight or tomorrow. Restrictions will also be imposed on indoor functions," he added.
