Nine get life imprisonment for SAD worker’s murder Nine persons were today given life imprisonment for the murder of a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) worker in 2014. SAD worker Gurjant Singh Janta was killed in a clash between two groups in Kambali village. One of the accused, Gaurav Patial, alias Lucky, is still on the run. Sukhpreet Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Dalbir Singh, Harpreet Singh Toor, Gagandeep Singh, Rupinder Singh, Kamaldeep Singh and Gursewak Singh were the convicts. While seven of them will pay Rs 23,500 as fine, Gursewak will pay Rs 25,500 as fine. The convicts were found guilty under Section 302 read with Sections 148/149, 341 and 506 of the IPC, while Gursewak was also found guilty under Section 25 of the Arms Act. The matter dates back to July 7, 2014, when Gurjant, along with two others, had gone to have liquor in a vehicle. The convicts arrived there and attacked Gurjant with sharp weapons. The reason was stated to be old enmity between the two groups. -PTC News
