Nirbhaya rape case: One of the four convicts in Nirbhaya rape case, Vinay Sharma, injured himself by banging his head against a wall in Tihar jail, the officials said on Thursday. The incident took place in jail number 3 on Sunday afternoon (February 16). Vinay had received minor injuries and was treated inside the prison premises. As per the officials, Vinay Sharma had stopped eating. The official also added that "Vinay Sharma is irritating in nature and acts differently from the other victims." Meanwhile, a senior jail official stated that Vinay Sharma got hurt after he banged his head against a wall. While he was banging his head, the security personnel saw him and stopped him immediately and called the doctors. Meanwhile, lawyer AP Singh moved to Delhi court seeking direction to Tihar Jail authorities to provide high level medical treatment to him. Also, the application mentioned that he sustained grievous head injury, fracture in his right arm, mental illness and schizophrenia, and refer him to Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) hospital. Likewise, a special court has sought a report from Tihar Jail on one of the death row convicts, Vinay Sharma plea seeking direction to Tihar Jail authorities. The court has issued a notice to Tihar on the application and fixed the matter for February 22. On Monday, the Delhi court ordered that the four convicts – Mukesh Kumar Singh (32), Pawan Gupta (25), Vinay Kumar Sharma (26) and Akshay Kumar (31) – would be hanged at 6 am on March 3. Recently, Vinay Singh's lawyer told the court that the convict was assaulted inside the jail premises and had received head injuries adding that he was suffering from mental illness and that the death sentence could not be carried out. https://www.ptcnews.tv/punjab-budget-session-2020-2021-sad-protest-against-power-scams/ To this, the court rejected the grounds of mental illness stating that the issue was raised before the apex court where it rejected the plea on the basis of the report submitted by the doctors. As per the sources, the mental health of the convicts was being regularly checked as the date of execution was approaching. The death warrants were earlier issued on January 7 while the execution was later put off on January 17 and again on January 31.   -PTC News
