Nirbhaya rape case: Delhi Court stays execution of convicts till further orders

Nirbhaya rape case: A Delhi Court on Friday issued a stay order on the execution of all the four convicts till further orders. Soon after the Delhi court pronounced its verdict, Minister of State for Home Affairs (MoS Home) G Kishan Reddy said that "There is a need to debate on how convicts of heinous crime are delaying the death penalty even after the Supreme Court order by exploiting the judicial process." Meanwhile, Asha Devi, mother of Nirbhaya, said "The lawyer of the convicts, AP Singh, has challenged me saying that the convicts will never be executed. I will continue my fight. The government will have to execute the convicts." The four convicts – Mukesh Singh (32), Gupta (25), Vinay Sharma (26) and Akshay Kumar Singh (31) – were scheduled to be hanged at 6 am on February 1. Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court dismissed a plea filed by one of the four convicts, Pawan Kumar Gupta, seeking a review of its order dismissing his juvenility claim. The review was taken up for consideration by a bench comprising of Justices R Banumathi, Ashok Bhushan and A S Bopanna. https://www.ptcnews.tv/dalip-kaur-tiwana-death-eminent-punjabi-writer-passes-away-en/ The four convicts were sentenced to death for the brutal rape and murder of a 23-year-old woman in a moving bus in Delhi on December 16, 2012.
