No drinking water will be available by 2030, says report

The report of NITI Ayog has revealed that 21 Indian cities including Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad will run out of groundwater by 2030 if we don't conserve now. If it happens, then it will surely affect around 100 million people. In a report of NITI Ayog, it is also mentioned that there will be no access to drink water by 2030. This is an alert given the fact that 2020 is not so far. Despite better water resources and heavy rainfall, three rivers, four water bodies, five wetlands and six forests completely dried in Chennai, says the report. Former Director of National Water Academy Professor Manohar Khushalani said the government is dependent upon the desalination in Chennai. Utilizing Ocean water is not a solution but water harvesting could be the permanent solution, said Manohar Khushalani. The professor has built a water harvesting structure inside his residence, harvesting rainwater since 2003, helping to raise the groundwater level in his area. The report is an alarm for future perspectives as water is an essential resource for the living. Also, if it happens, then 40 percent of the Indian population will not be having access to the water, which will surely welcome a calamity. -PTC News
