But if the reports coming from Russia Today are to be believed that the internet to be shut down for 48 hours, one can wonder, how it will impact the life of netizens.

According to Russia today, the key domain servers are scheduled for routine maintenance in the next 48 hours. The main domain servers and related network infrastructure would be down for some time. Due to which global internet users across the globe might experience network failures.

During this time, the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) would be carrying out the maintenance work. They would change the cryptographic key, which is essential in protecting the internet’s address book. The internet address book is popularly known as the Domain Name System (DNS).

The need for change was felt after the rise in the number of cyber attack incidents.

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) told the media sources that the global internet shutdown is necessary to ensure a secure, stable and resilient DNS.

In a statement, CRA said, "To further clarify, some internet users might be affected if their network operators or Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have not prepared for this change. However, this impact can be avoided by enabling the appropriate system security extensions."

Internet users may find it difficult in making any transactions in the next 48 hours. They may not be able to access Facebook, Instagram, Snapchats also.

Internet was just a curiosity back in 1995. Fast-forwarding 28 years, more than 3.5 billion people have an internet connection.
