No weekend lockdown in Chandigarh

The Chandigarh Administration on Friday decided in a war-room meeting that there will be no weekend lockdown in the city. The development comes when the coronavirus cases have started rising at a rapid pace. Chandigarh on Thursday reported 188 new cases of coronavirus, the highest so far. Fortunately, the Union Territory also reported the highest single-day spike in recoveries. Chandigarh reported 186 recoveries in a single day. Chandigarh Administration in a release said that "The weekend closure of markets will be discontinued. However, the Market Associations and customers must ensure the strict following of hygienic practices like wearing masks and social distancing." Meanwhile, the weekend closure of Sukhna lake will continue. The residents can utilize various parks for physical activities i.e. walking, yoga, etc. The odd-even formula being applied in congested markets, as have been notified earlier, will continue till September 3.
