Hockey history is being created here as never before Argentina and Australia have figured in a FIH tournament final. Trailing 0-2 till 50th minute, Germans withdrew their goalkeeper to add extra offender. This move, too, proved counter productive as Australians managed to swell their final tally to 3-0 with a virtual gift goal in the 59th minute when Aran Zalewski scored from top of the circle with an empty goal before him.
Australians started controlling the game from the start by forcing their first penalty corner in the eighth minute. Though the first goal came late in the third quarter when Dylan Wotherspoon scored a brilliant field goal in the 41st minute.
Six minutes later, the Aussies consolidated the lead when Jeremy Hayward made no mistake from the second penalty corner.
India will now take on Germany for the bronze medal. In the second edition of World Hockey League Final, India had beaten Holland to claim the bronze.
