An elderly couple was beaten in their own house by a 21-year-old man in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The incident happened on June 17 when the 64-year old man and his 63-year-old wife were at home. The accused Romil Mishra, who is a grandson of local Congress leader Saroj Mishra and son of local crime journalist Paresh Mishra, went to the victim’s house to meet them. He asked Mrs Sushma Khare to get a glass of water for him and as soon as she started walking towards the kitchen, the boy started hitting the woman with objects that were kept close to him. The husband who was on the first floor came down running after hearing the commotion. The accused allegedly then hit the husband, the couple ran outside their house to save themselves. The elderly couple had given one portion of their house on rent to a girl and her friend. Initially, things were good with the couple and their tenants but later on the girls started coming late and also started calling their male friends at home. The couple expressed their disagreement over this and asked the girls to vacate their house. On June 17, the accused, who was acquainted with one of the girls came to meet the couple and then attacked them. “He was angry about the fact that my mother had asked the girls to leave,” said one of their sons. “The accused is from an influential family, and that is why the police are not taking the case seriously,” he added. Journalist Prakash Mishra, the father of the accused has alleged that his son has been falsely named in the case. According to him, the old couple was trying to blackmail his son for last many months. -PTC News
