Pakistan grapples with unprecedented floods in decades

Islamabad[Pakistan], August 29: As Pakistan is experiencing one of the worst floods in the history, nearly 5.7 million people are affected by the floods as reported by The News International. The unprecedented rising water level has made people encounter wretched conditions across the country. It has left many provinces submerged and has extensively sabotaged the infrastructure all around the country leaving 9, 49,858 homes damaged. Rescue operations in the country are underway. Meanwhile in order to cope with the destructions, the government has urged for donations. Not to mention the death toll in the country has crossed 1,000 and thousands have been displaced ever since the floods occurred.  Citing National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Geo News reported that at least 1033 people have died from the floods more than 1500 people have been injured.  4 people lost their lives in Balochistan, whereas Gilgit Baltistan reported 6 and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported 31 deaths. pakistanflood3 Also Read| Pro-Khalistan slogans found on ex-CM Beant Singh's statue in Jalandhar The country is grappling with its worst calamity in the decades following which ‘national emergency’ was declared by Pakistan Government.  According to the data revealed by the NDMA, Pakistan’s 30 year average shows that the country has 134 mm rain, however this year the amount of rainfall rose to 388.7 mm which is nearly 190.07 % more than the average. Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a warning against exceptionally high level flooding in River Kabul at Nowshera in KP Province and in the Kabul and Indus rivers as well. -PTC News with ANI inputs
