Pan Am Games Lima 2019: Canada to meet Argentina in semis of women's hockey

Defending champions Argentina has set up its semi-final clash with Canada in women's hockey competition of Pan Ama Games Lima 2019. While Argentina recorded the biggest win of the tournament defeating Peru 21-0, Canada also made short work of Mexico 9-0 in the quarter-finals. In other last-eight round games, USA beat Cuba 9-0 while Chile overcame Uruguay 5-0.

Though Argentina is without some of its top stalwarts and under a new coach, the team has shown tremendous form throughout the competition. Its win over babes of hockey and the hosts Peru was only a forewarning to Canada.
Canada went into the game against Mexico with great expectations. Though the win was never in doubt the margin had assumed significance especially after in the first game, Argentina ran into a cricket-like score. Canada had a tougher opponent than Peru.
Canadian girls played well and followed the strategy of making good use of opportunities coming it is the way. Sara McMannus,  Hannah Lyn Vaughn, Natalie Sourisseau, Brienne Stairs, Rachel Donohoe, Amanda Woodooraft and Karli Johnston were the scorers for Canada. The real test comes on Tuesday in the semi-finals. Chilly winds and overcast sky weather may have a role to play in the medal round games.
The USA also had an easy encounter against Mexico. Ashley Hoffman, Casey Umstead, Kathleen Sharkey, Allessie McKenzie, Danielle Grega,  Lauren Moyer, and Alyssa Manley were its scorers.
