Panjab University announces date for pending Senate Elections, but with condition

Bowing to pressure from the protesting students, Panjab University (PU) has announced to hold the Senate Elections for the registered graduate constituency category from September 26. Some graduate constituency candidates had been protesting over the delay in the elections for the last several days. Vikram Nayyar, Registrar-cum-Returning Officer, said the Senate Elections would be held on September 26, but there was a condition. The final approval for the same was subject to “the nod of the Chancellor and Vice President of India and also subject to approval of one of the states, Uttarakhand, where the elections of the graduate constituency are to be held". However, in the absence of permission, the elections were postponed. Students and stakeholders of the university had launched an indefinite protest demanding the elections at the earliest. The elections were supposed to end on August 23. In August last year, the elections were postponed by the Vice-Chancellor amid the pandemic.
