Paris: Notre Dame Cathedral fire under control
A major fire that broke out in 800 years old Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris has been brought under control in the early hours of Tuesday. French President, Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron, praised the firefighters for saving the cathedral’s iconic facade and towers.
While briefing the media, the French President said that an international fundraising campaign to rebuild the Notre Dame Cathedral would be launched on Tuesday. French billionaire François Pinault has pledged to donate USD 113 million for the reconstruction of the cathedral.
On Monday evening, a major fire broke out in the historic cathedral. It houses a few of the most coveted relics in Christianity, including the Holy Crown. Many believe that it belongs to the crown of thorns that was placed on the head of Jesus.
