Patiala: Police stops protesting govt employees from marching towards CM's residence

Punjab Police on Thursday stopped the protesting government employees from marching towards the residence of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. These employees have been protesting against the recommendations of Punjab 6th pay commission report. Thousands of government employees associated with various organisations across the state gathered to protest in Patiala against the Punjab government's implementation of the recommendations of the 6th pay commission report. The protests erupted after the Punjab government implemented the recommendations beginning July 1. Also Read | For first time since June 10 last year, Punjab records zero COVID-19 deaths in 24 hours Those holding protests include employees associated with Punjab and UT employees and pensioners' front, ministerial services association, vocational teachers' union, employees of PSPCL, medical practitioners, and over 100 other groups. The employees believe that they were being provided minimal increment in salaries with the new implementation. They also said that the state government has been issuing fake assurances of regularisation of jobs to contractual employees while their services have not been regularised. They also alleged that several issues including providing DA arrears, regularisation of services of employees, teachers and filling vacant posts in government offices were pending for long. -PTC News
