27 people drown a Boat capsizes in Central Africa At least 27 people have drowned when a riverboat capsizes on a tributary of a Congo River in DR Congo, Africa. Nearly 60 people, mainly traders, and students boarded the canoe-shaped boat named HB Espoir, which means HOPE.  They were not provided with the life-jacket, even though many of them cannot swim. Also, the boat was in poor condition and overload and it was sailed after dark due to which the boat capsized overnight. Also read: One dead, dozens of Chinese tourists missing as Thai boat capsizes Rescue teams rushed to the spot. 27 bodies have been pulled from the Mongala River during the Rescue Operation. Other bodies were said to be still underwater. Provincial governor Alpha Belo- Negwata also reached the spot and overlooked the entire rescue operation. The African authorities are looking into the matter. They have also initiated the search operation of the owner who has fled the scene after the accident. They can be measured anywhere between 15-30 meters long and 6 meters wide.
