Petrol, diesel prices in India hike for 2nd consecutive day

Fuel Prices Hike: The petrol and diesel prices in India increased for the second consecutive day on Monday taking the rates to fresh record highs. According to the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the petrol in Delhi was being sold at Rs 95.31 per litre after a hike of 28 paise while Diesel witnessed a rise of 27 paise and was priced at Rs 86.22 per litre. After the daily revision of prices, the petrol was being sold at Rs 101.52 per litre in Mumbai while diesel was Rs 93.58 per litre. In Chennai and Kolkata, the petrol stood at Rs 96.71, Rs 95. 28, respectively. On the other hand, the diesel was priced at Rs 90.92 and Rs 89.07 per litre in Chennai and Kolkata, respectively.

  It was the third hike in fuel prices in the last week, starting from June 1 to June 6. It is pertinent to mention that fuel prices vary from state to state on the basis of local taxes such as value-added tax (VAT) and freight charges. Rajasthan imposes the highest VAT on petrol in the country, followed by Madhya Pradesh. The daily revision is due to several factors including international crude prices and exchange rate.
