Petrol, diesel prices rise for 9th consecutive day [Check latest prices]

Petrol and diesel prices hike in India today: The fuel rates in India hiked for the ninth consecutive day on Wednesday (February 17). As per the report, the petrol price on Wednesday increased by 23-25 paise per litre while diesel has gone up by 24-26 paise a litre. Details inside Petrol and diesel prices hike in India today: The fuel rates in India hiked for the ninth consecutive day on Wednesday (February 17). After today’s hike in Petrol and diesel prices in India, the petrol in the national capital increased to Rs 89.54 (25 paise increase) a litre while it was Rs 89.29 on Tuesday. On the other hand, the diesel price increased to Rs 79.95 per litre as compared to Rs 79.70 a litre on Tuesday. In Mumbai, the petrol rates touched the Rs 96 per litre mark, the highest price till date while it was Rs 95.75 on Tuesday. Diesel in Mumbai reached Rs 86.98 a litre after a 26 paise increase over Tuesday’s price. In Kolkata, the petrol price hiked to Rs 90.78 per litre from Rs 90.54, while diesel increased to Rs 83.54 a litre from Rs 83.29.

  Meanwhile, the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, while responding to the hike in petrol and diesel price in India, said that “My suggestion is that this is the time for the country to go for alternative fuel." On the other hand, the Union Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, last week, ruled out any cut in excise duty to give relief to the common man. It is worth mentioning that the Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday announced that the prices of petrol and diesel will be cut by Rs 7 approximately in the state. Earlier, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that the additional tax of Rs 5 per litre imposed on petrol and diesel in the state has been withdrawn.
