Piyush Goyal urges Punjab govt to ensure full safety of trains
Union Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal on Saturday urged the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to ensure full safety and security of the railway's system to allow the movement of train services in Punjab.
Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal was quoted by news agency ANI as saying: "Urge Punjab Govt to ensure full safety and security of the entire Railways system and allow running of all trains through and to Punjab so that goods and passenger trains can serve the people of Punjab."
He further said, "Operationally important that all tracks, stations, and Railway property are clear for the safety of passengers, railway staff, and infrastructure."
"People of Punjab want to travel for festivals like Chhath Puja, Diwali, and Gurupurab," he said.
The statement comes a day after the Punjab government claimed that all railway tracks were cleared by the Punjab farmers to allow the movement of goods train services in Punjab.
To this, the Ministry of Railways had tweeted: "State Govt. is misguiding by saying that all tracks are clear for the movement of Goods trains. We request the State Govt to clear the track and stations for the operation of all trains."
Earlier on Friday, the Chairman and CEO of Railway Board VK Yadav, in a press conference, had clearly explained that Railways can start train operations in Punjab only if track and stations are clear for running of all trains including freight and passenger trains.
