Retired IAS officer Pramod Kumar Mishra has been appointed principal secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former cabinet secretary P K Sinha has been appointed principal advisor to the PM. Both appointments are co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders.

P K Sinha was appointed officer on special duty (OSD) in the Prime Minister’s Office last month. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) gave the nod to his appointment as principal advisor to the PM with effect from September 11, 2019. With this, the core group at the PMO comprises Principal Secretary P K Mishra, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Principal Advisor to Prime Minister P K Sinha.

Mishra was one of the first bureaucrats to be appointed to the PMO when Narendra Modi was elected as Prime Minister. He served as additional principal secretary to the Prime Minister for five years. In 2001, he was his top aide during Modi’s stint as Gujarat CM.
