Police arrests WhatsApp porn group admin in Mumbai

Police has arrested a Whatsapp pornographic group admin in Mumbai on Thursday. 24-year-old Mustaq Ali Shaikh, has been arrested for adding a woman’s phone mobile number to a group that shares pornographic content without her consent. He was working as a carpenter in West Bengal. He has been arrested under IPC sections for outraging the modesty of a woman. He has also been held under sections 67 and 67-A of the IT Act.

Earlier this year in September, the phone number of a housewife was added to a group, ‘Triple XXX.’ At first, she thought that it was a mere prank played by her friends. Later, she found the group flooding with pornographic videos and photos. Following which, she lodged a complaint. WhatsApp

In her complaint, the victim said that when she looked at the numbers for group members and the administration, they were all unknown. The police traced Mustaq Ali Shaikh’s phone number and found that the number was from West Bengal. Just when the police was about to send its team to West Bengal, they were informed by their mobile service provider that the accused is in Mumbai only. The police later arrested him from the Sion-Dharavi area. During the interrogation, he told the police that he may have accidentally added the complainant’s number to the group. He also told that he thought that the number belonged to one of his relatives. He was also not aware of how he had her number. He also said that he had no intention of hurting anybody’s sentiments. The police has confiscated Shaikh’s cell phone and has sent the same to the Forensic Science Laboratory to retrieve the data. It is also working on the call detail reports of all the member of the group. -PTC NEWS
