MCD Polls: AAP promises relief from stray cattle, monkey and dog menace

New Delhi, November 17: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday promised to provide relief to Delhi residents from stray cattle, monkey and dog menace if it is voted to govern in the national capital's December four civic body polls.

Speaking to the media at the AAP's Delhi office on Rouse Avenue, Greater Kailash MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj said that cattle in the national capital continue to eat garbage. Bhardwaj, the AAP's national spokesperson, also stated that if elected to govern in the upcoming Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, his party would build gaushalas for stray cattle.

Monkeys are another major issue for Delhi residents. He promised that arrangements would be made to return monkeys to their natural habitat.

The third major issue is stray dogs. He added that the AAP government in Delhi brought stray dog problems to the attention of the MCD several times but did nothing to resolve them.

Bhardwaj stated that if elected to govern MCD, the AAP would relieve Delhi residents of the dog menace by encouraging individuals and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to adopt stray dogs as pets.

The AAP will launch a movement to make desi breed dogs as pets under the slogan "Be Indian, Adopt Indian," he added.

All of these measures will relieve Delhi residents of the stray cattle, monkey, and dog menace, he added.

The AAP MLA also stated that regular fogging would be done to get rid of mosquitos and prevent the spread of various diseases.

Following a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the total number of civic wards in the national capital was reduced from 272 to 250. The notification concerned the redrawing of MCD wards.

Notably, the BJP has been in charge of the civic bodies since 2007.

The BJP won 181 of the 270 wards in the most recent civic body elections in 2017. The AAP had won 48 wards and the Congress had won 27. Due to the death of two candidates, voting for two seats was not held.

Voting for the 250-member MCD will take place on December 4, and the votes will be counted on December 7.
