Corps of Engineers of the Indian Army conduct snow clearing operation on the route to Sikh pilgrimage site Hemkund Sahib in Chamoli district. Portals of the Hemkund Sahib are scheduled to open on May 25.
Devotees can come here for about six months to visit. Every year millions of pilgrims from all over India and abroad arrive here. Last year, one lakh 29 thousand 900 pilgrims had visited Hemkund Sahib.
Charakjit Singh Bindra, the local president of Hemkund Gurudwara Rishikesh and former chairman of the Uttarakhand Minority Commission, said that on 25th of May at 12:00 noon the famous Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara kapat will be opened. Hemkund Sahib is dedicated to the tenth Sikh Guru Guru Govind Singh, the kapat of the Gurudwara, opens during the month of May.
This shrine is covered in snow and ice for 6 months. It is located in Chamoli district. This is a famous pilgrim place for Sikhs and Hindus as it has also a temple dedicated to Laxman, brother of Lord Ram.
