The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President and Lok Sabha member from Gurdaspur Sunil Jakhar has said that the central government should immediately come forward to provide all possible help to the families of Indians who had been killed in Iraq.

Speaking to media after meeting affected families at New Delhi today in the presence of Amritsar MP Mr. Gurjeet Singh Aujla, PPCC president said that the Center should understand the feelings of such victims’ families and extend help them without any delay.

“Regretfully, instead of understanding their sensitivities, the central government was harassing them. Even Prime Minister Narender Modi did not speak a single word of sympathy for these Indians in his latest edition of Man ki Baat, aired on All India Radio, yesterday, Jakhar said.

He said that these people went abroad to earn livelihood besides supporting the needs of their families, were from different states of country. He said that for this, the central government should help the affected families befittingly as they were under deep-shock and facing a tough time after the deaths of their earning members were confirmed few days back.

Mr. Jakhar said that on the day, the Foreign Minister informed about the death of these Indians in the Parliament, it would have been good had the Modi government also announced substantial help to them on the same day so that they did not have to move to Delhi today.

Mr. Jakhar said that in the foreign countries our citizen should be properly guided by our embassies so they could be saved from such deadly tragedies in future.

He also hoped that Punjab government will stand with these families in this hour of grief and sorrow and every possible help would be given by the state. -PTC News
