President Ram Nath Kovind conferred Shaurya Chakra (posthumously) on Lance Naik Sandeep Singh of 4 Para (Special Forces) for killing one foreign terrorist and injuring two others in an operation in Jammu and Kashmir in 2018. His wife Gurpreet Kaur received the award.

President Ram Nath Kovind, who is the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, conferred two Kirti Chakras, including one posthumous, one Vir Chakra and 10 Shaurya Chakras, including two posthumous, to the personnel of Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces during Defence Investiture Ceremony (Phase-1) at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi, on Monday.

Sepoy Brajesh Kumar of Punjab Regiment of Indian Army was accorded Shaurya Chakra posthumously for killing an A++ category terrorist during an operation in Jammu and Kashmir in 2018. His wife Shweta Kumari received the award.

Sepoy Hari Singh of 55th Rashtriya Rifles awarded Shaurya Chakra posthumously for killing a terrorist and injuring another in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir in 2019. His wife Radha Bai received the award from the President.

Jammu and Kashmir Police Sub-Inspector Imran Hussain Tak was conferred with Shaurya Chakra posthumously for killing a top terrorist commander and arresting another despite sustaining bullet injuries in Srinagar in 2017. His wife Gulnaz Akhtar received the award. Jammu and Kasmir SPO Ashiq Hussain Malik was conferred with Shaurya Chakra posthumously for showing highest degree of courage leading to the elimination of four heavily armed terrorists during an operation in Anantnag in 2018. The Gallantry awards were given to the personnel for displaying conspicuous gallantry, indomitable courage and extreme devotion to duty.

The Union Ministry of Defence, in a press release, said the President also conferred 13 Param Vishisht Seva Medals, two Uttam Yudh Seva Medals and 24 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals for distinguished service of an exceptional order.
