Prof Surjit Hans Death: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President, Sukhbir Singh Badal, on Friday condoled the death of Prof Surjit Hans, an eminent Punjabi writer and noted Sikh historian.

Sukhbir Singh Badal took to twitter and wrote: “Saddened to learn about demise of noted historian & writer Prof Surjit Hans ji who is best known for translating works of Shakespeare into Punjabi. His contribution to ‘maa boli’ will always be remembered. My condolences to his daughter & prominent journalist Nanki Hans & family.”

Likewise, the official handle of Shiromani Akali Dal wrote: “Shiromani Akali Dal condoles the passing away of historian, scholar and writer S. Surjit Hans Ji. May Waheguru ji rest the departed soul in peace and grant strength to the bereaved family to bear the loss.”

Senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia said in a tweet: “Anguished to learn about demise of historian & writer Prof Surjit Hans ji who did yeoman service for the cause of Punjabi. A Punjab Sahit Akademi awardee he is known for books like “Mitti di Dheri”. My condolences to his family including daughter&senior journalist Nanki Hans ji.”

Likewise, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh wrote: “Deeply saddened to learn of the passing away of well known writer & historian, Prof. Surjit Hans Ji. I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family and pray that may his soul rest in peace.”
