The Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, NCP’s Praful Patel and AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi today cast their votes for 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Nitin Gadkari is contesting from Nagpur who is up against Congress’ Nana Patole.  NCP’s Praful Patel is contesting from Bhandara-Gondiya Lok Sabha constituency. AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi will fight it from Hyderabad, Telangana. He has held this seat since 2004. Voting for the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections has begun today with people of 91 out of 543 seats will cast their votes to choose their representative in the Parliament. Fates of several union ministers along with other heavyweights will be decided today.

The constituencies going for polls in the first phase are - 8 in Uttar Pradesh, 5 in Uttarakhand, 4 in Bihar, 7 in Maharashtra, 5 in Assam, 4 in Odisha, 2 each in Jammu and Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and West Bengal, and 1 each in Chhattisgarh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.

More than 15 crore voters will decide the fate of 1289 candidates. More than one lakh polling booths have been set up across India. Voting for 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held in seven phases - April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. Counting of votes will be done on May 23.
