Protesting Punjab Roadways staff assured meeting at CM office on September 14

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Kharar, SAS Nagar, Punjab, has assured the protesting contractual employees of the Punjab Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) and PUNBUS (Punjab Roadways) of arranging their meeting at the Chief Minister office in Chandigarh on September 14. However, it is yet not clear if the protesters would be meeting Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh or not. Also read | Karnal Mini-Secretariat gherao enters Day 4, farmers refuse to budge The major demands of the protesting contractual staff of the PRTC and PUNBUS (Punjab Roadways) are the regularisation of their services, checking transport mafia; streamlining of daily hourly roster; strengthening state transport undertakings, implementation of equal work equal pay and to stop unnecessary harassment of employees on day-to-day reports. Although the protesters called off their dharna outside the Siswan residence of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh in Mohali on Friday, they have announced to intensify their stir further. Also read | Drone from Pak drops six packets of heroin in Tarn Taran’s fields As per the plan, the protesters will stage dharnas at all depots across the state on September 11; in front of the residences of all MLAs for two hours on September 12 and a 'dhol march in all cities across Punjab on September 13. The protesters said if their demands were not fulfilled at the meeting with Captain Amarinder Singh on September 14, they would block all highways across Punjab on September 15, besides gheraoing the Siswan farm house. The bus services have been largely affected across the state, causing inconvenience to the general public. As many as 80 percent of buses remain off the road.
