5-year-old boy falls between train and platform at Ludhiana railway station, loses leg
PTC Web Desk: A tragic incident was reported at Ludhiana railway station, Punjab, when a five-year-old boy slipped between the moving train and platform while deboarding an intercity express, resulting in severe injuries that led to the amputation of his leg.
The accident took place on October 2, but the CCTV footage of the incident surfaced only recently. The boy, identified as Abhaas, was travelling with his parents and sibling to Muzaffarnagar (his maternal grandparents’ home). According to reports, the family had reached the station to board the train. The mother, carrying luggage and accompanied by her two children, managed to help one child board the train as it started moving.
When she failed to board with her second child, she shouted for the first child to get off. At that moment, a passenger inside the train tried to help by lifting the boy down, but he lost balance and fell into the narrow gap between the platform and the train. His leg came under the train’s wheels, leaving him severely injured.
Onlookers at the platform immediately rushed to rescue the child and took him to CMC Hospital in Ludhiana. Given his critical condition, he was referred first to Delhi and later to a hospital in Meerut, where doctors were forced to amputate his leg to save his life.
The boy’s father, Sandeep, who works in a private company and lives in Ludhiana’s Dugri area, said his son was a student of Class 2. GRP official said as per the CCTV footage, the mishap occurred due to loss of balance while deboarding.
