HC imposes Rs 15 crore fine on Punjab Govt for failing to lift protest outside Malbros liquor factory

Chandigarh, November 29: In a major setback, the High Court has imposed a Rs 15 crore fine on the Punjab government for failing to end the protest outside the Malbros liquor factory.

According to the orders issued by the High Court, the state government has to submit a Rs 15 crore fine in one week.


Earlier, the Punjab government deposited Rs 5 crore to the Punjab and Haryana high court registry in connection with the indefinite protest outside Malbros International Private Limited, an alcohol-making unit at Mansurwal village of Zira assembly segment in Ferozepur.

A petition was filed in the Punjab and Haryana high court on behalf of Malbros International Private Limited, Ferozepur, alleging that their company had been closed since July 26 due to an indefinite protest outside.

"The Punjab government had failed to lift the protest, resulting in financial losses," the company stated.
