Amritsar, November 19: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday said all signboards in the state would have Punjabi on top. He asked all institutions to give preference to Punjabi language.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said Punjabi should be written on top of all sign boards till February 21, on the occasion of International Language Day. Other languages would be written after that. After February 21, the administration would impose strictness in this regard, added the Punjab CM.

Earlier, the Punjab Cabinet, led by Bhagwant Mann, had given nod to amend Rule 17 of the Punjab Civil Services (General and Common Conditions of services) Rules, 1994, and the Punjab State (Group-D) Service Rules, 1963, to ensure that only those candidates are appointed in the Punjab Government who have knowledge of the Punjabi language.
