Patiala Administration suspends 274 arms licences; issues show-cause notices

Patiala,  November 19: Deputy Commissioner, Patiala, Sakshi Sawhney on Saturday said following instructions from the Punjab Government to review all arms licences within three months, the office of the District Magistrate had suspended 274 arms licences, besides issuing show-cause notices to the holders.

Patiala Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney said 274 arms licences were suspended in the district with show-cause notices to the holders as to why they should not be cancelled as they had more than two weapons per licence despite giving repeated opportunities. They had been asked to deposit the same with immediate effect, she added.

The Deputy Commissioner further said arms licences of all those who had been bound down under Section 107/110 of the CRPC were also being suspended for the period of the bond as per Section 9 of the Arms Act.

The Deputy Commissioner said the District Magistrate office had also shared a list of 30,000 arms licences with the police department for verification of any criminal misconduct or behaviour, which did not justify the need for an arms licence.
