Punjab: Flood situation in state under control; public safety their top priority: CM Bhagwant Mann
Chandigarh, August 16: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday reassured that the flood situation in the state is under control, emphasising that the state government is closely monitoring the entire situation.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann assured the public that there was no cause for alarm. He said the state government was in constant touch with both the Himachal Government and the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) regarding the discharge of surplus water from hilly regions.
He said the situation at the Pong Dam and the Ranjit Sagar Dam was under control. Ensuring the safety of the public's lives and property was a paramount responsibility of the state government, he added.
The Chief Minister said it was the duty of the state government to help people in this hour of crisis and all efforts were made to mitigate their problems. He claimed that relief was being extended to every individual, even those residing in the remote corners of the state.
Bhagwant Singh Mann said special thrust was being laid to ensure relief in the worst affected areas of the state so that people did not face any sort of problem.
The Punjab Chief Minister said though the situation was under control, priority was being given to carry out rescue and relief work in the badly affected areas of the state.
Bhagwant Singh Mann said he was personally monitoring the situation and every effort would be made to ensure that the loss of lives is minimised.
