The Counter Intelligence in a joint operation with the Border Security Force on Wednesday recovered 22 pistols and 44 magazines allegedly smuggled from Pakistan.
According to information, the CI and BSF conducted a search operation in the Khemkaran area following a tip-off. The security forces seized 22 pistols 30 bore, 44 magazines, and 1 kg of heroin besides 100 live cartridges and 72 gm opium.
It has been reported that drones were used to drop these items. Likewise, the Border Security Force jawans had opened fire at the drones. Meanwhile, a search operation is underway.
The development comes at a time when Punjab is opposing the Centre's directive extending BSF jurisdiction to over 50km from the international border of the state.
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi condemned the Centre's decision to extend the Border Security Force (BSF)'s jurisdiction over a wider area along the borders of three states and said that it is a "direct attack on federalism".
Also, he requested the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to immediately roll back this irrational decision.
"I strongly condemn the GoI's unilateral decision to give additional powers to BSF within the 50 km belt running along the international borders, which is a direct attack on federalism. I urge the Union Home Minister @AmitShah to immediately roll back this irrational decision," tweeted Channi.
