Punjab: Assistant sub-inspector of police arrested for taking bribe

Sleuths of Punjab Vigilance Bureau yesterday arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted at Anaj Mandi Police station in Patiala while accepting a bribe of Rs 14,000, an official said. Two police officials, who were accomplices of the arrested accused, have also been booked, a spokesperson of the vigilance bureau said. Punjab: Assistant sub-inspector of police arrested for taking bribe Tarnjeet Singh, a resident of Abchal Nagar in Patiala, had complained to the vigilance bureau that ASI Gurmeet Singh had demanded Rs 30,000 by threatening to lodge a false case against him, but the deal was struck at Rs 20,000. After verifying the information, the vigilance team laid a trap and the accused ASI was arrested while taking the bribe of Rs 14,000 as first installment from the complainant, the spokesperson said. During investigation it came to light that the bribe amount was to be shared by two more police officials -- head constable Harjinder Singh and SHO's PSO Ashok Kumar, he said, adding case under Prevention of Corruption Act and relevant sections of the IPC has been registered against all the three accused and further investigations were underway.
