Sukhbir Singh Badal felicitates Simranjit with Rs one lakh cash award
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday felicitated Punjab boxer Simranjit Kaur on becoming the first woman boxer to qualify for the Olympics from the State and presented her with a cash award of Rs one lakh on behalf of the party. Sirmranjit had called on the SAD President along with her family here on Monday.
While interacting with the boxer and her family members, Sukhbir Badal said that Simranjit’s grit in taking up boxing which is not popular among girls in Punjab would encourage other girls also to take up this sport.
He also congratulated the boxer’s family for supporting Simranjit’s passion. He also spoke about her Simranjit had overridden personal tragedy in the form of the passing away of her father and not got distracted from her goal.
Sukhbir Singh Badal added that he was confident that Simranjit would do well at the Tokyo Olympics and bring laurels to the State. He said besides making the cut for the Tokyo Olympics, Simranjit had brought laurels to the State in the AIBA Women’s World Boxing championship.

Meanwhile, others present on the occasion included senior SAD leaders Jathedar Tota Singh and Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema.
